Nissan is making its Safety Shield® 360 suite of driver assistance technology standard on 10 models. Driver safety features have been shown to significantly reduce car accidents, especially among young, inexperienced drivers.
Statistics from the Centers for Disease Control show teen-aged drivers between the ages of 16 and 19 to have the highest rates of accidents of any age group, and the risk is highest during the first few months of driving. Nissan Safety Shield® 360 includes features like Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, which have been shown to significantly reduce automobile crashes by as much as 70 percent. Driver-assistance features accomplish this by using visual and haptic warnings to focus the driver’s attention on potential problems.
Nissan Safety Shield® 360 is currently included on Sentra, LEAF, Maxima, Kicks, Rogue Sport, and TITAN models, and will be added to the family-friendly 2021 Rogue and three more models in the near future. The Sentra is a particularly standout model, as it offers the most standard safety features of any other vehicle in the sedan class. The six standard safety features include the following:
- Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
- Lane Departure Warning
- High Beam Assist
- Blind Spot Warning
- Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
- Rear Automatic Braking
